Dear Chan Hee Huh, Jung Changyong and Dr. Kang Sukhun,

From the International Society for the Psychological and Social Approaches to Psychosis

The ISPS community will be immensely sad to hear of the passing of Dr Dongshick Rhee who spent much of his life dedicated to the field of psychotherapy.

We will remember him well for his inspiring presence at our international ISPS congresses over many years and his encouragement of his Korean colleagues to also attend and present their work which allowed for opportunities for many to understand and appreciate his approach.

We are very much aware that Dr Rhee had spent time in the United States in the 1950s and how much effort he made throughout the decades that followed to both bridge the cultural differences and at the same time emphasise a differentiation of approaches. He was involved in a number of international organisations not only ISPS.

Many of us will have books on our shelves that illustrate his work and that of his colleagues and these will be an important way in wich Dr Rhee will live on in the heart of the ISPS community (to paraphrase the exchange quoted below between Dr Rhee and one of his patients).

We anticipate that in the decades to come, Dr Rhee's influence will continue to grow and inspire East and West to learn even more from one another regarding severe mental illness.

The executive committee of ISPS and indeed the whole ISPS international community on five continents wishes to send our sincere condolences to Dr Rhee's family and his colleagues and convey our thanks for such a long and productive life that touched so many.
